Until now it was widely believed that gravity played a large role in why boomerangs returned back to the thrower, however a kink in this theory has just been introduced. The problem is that a Japanese astronaut has thrown a boomerang aboard the International Space Station and found it returned to him.
An astronaut has added to the font of human knowledge by demonstrating that boomerangs return without the aid of gravity.
Takao Doi "threw a boomerang and saw it come back" on March 18 at the International Space Station, a spokeswoman at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency said yesterday.
Dr Doi, an engineering expert, carried out the "experiment" after a request from Yasuhiro Togai, a world boomerang champion.
So the question is what dynamic is at work here? Aerodynamics?
